Visiting Vietnam in Spring

Today our Guest Blogger is going to enlighten the FundMyTravel Community with some helpful tips to keep in mind when visiting Vietnam in the Spring.

Best time to visit is from February to April

If you are looking into visiting Vietnam for study abroad or vacation then the months from February to April is the best time to land in the beautiful country. February through April is the Spring season and flowers and gardens start to bloom over the entire country. That time of year tends to be very dry and humid in the capital city, but if you enjoy seeing the beauty of nature, then it is when you should plan your trip. However, if you would like to take part in some of the most finest festivals in Vietnam, then you must plan your trip a little bit before February so that you are able to witness the Tet festival. During the Tet festival you can see the country bursting with colors, especially in cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. You can see some beauty of the Tet Festival in the picture below to get a glimpse of what you can expect.

You must plan your journey well ahead of time,  since during the Tet Festival most tourist locations will be closed and almost all tickets and hotel bookings will be filled. So plan your journey and decide before hand which festivals you want to attend and which cities you would like to visit, since even the trains connecting major cities will be booked in advance during this period.

Plan Ahead

There are some important things you must keep in mind if you plan to travel to Vietnam during the spring season. The most important is booking your plane and train tickets well in advance when the international ticket prices are low. Once it reaches mid-January the ticket prices will sky rocket because a lot of people will be visiting their family members during that time to celebrate the New Year. Even though plane and train tickets will be full during that period, hotels won’t be because there are not very many tourists around  that time of year. It is still a good idea to plan ahead and look the hotels you would like to stay in before visiting.  Beaches will be partially empty during the Tet holidays. So spend some of your time on the beach or in your cosy hotel room, since the other tourist locations might be closed for a few days. I certainly would not mind spending four days on the beach in order to witness the Tet Festival celebrations because the  festival is like no other and I would definitely consider it a blessing to be in the country during that time of the year, even though it is not a month favoring tourism.

Final Note

So when traveling to Vietnam in the Spring remember to book your international and domestic tickets well ahead of your journey,  along with your hotel rooms. That way you will be guaranteed to save a lot of money during your trip to Vietnam. One more tip! Since it is the New Years celebration you can expect most shops to be closed during the holidays but, if you do find an open shop, buy everything you would like because many of the shopkeepers charge much less during this period to keep up with their belief that they will get a good sales year without loses during the rest of the year.

I prefer to visit Vietnam between November and early December. I enjoy being in Vietnam during tet, that’s my most favorite time to be in Vietnam. Vietnam is very much alive at spring and summer but the whole country lights up during tet.

Thanks so much for your thoughts!
