5 Things That Might Ruin Your Travel Funding Campaign

Crowdfunding is a great tool for getting the money you need to travel. Whether you want to take a bucket list trip, travel abroad to study, or volunteer your time in another place, there are people who are willing to help you reach your goal. The only thing you have to do – is to start a campaign. Nowadays there are numerous platforms that allow doing that but you have to keep in mind, that this is not as easy as it might seem. With that being said, here are 5 things that might ruin your travel crowdfunding campaign:

Not Showing Your Own Efforts

We think it is pretty obvious, that people start crowdfunding campaigns to gain money that they don’t have, not to save some. So you have to show your funders that you are investing just as much time and effort into this campaign as they do. Take a second job, make some savings – let people see that you are working hard to achieve your goal and don’t just beg for other people’s money.

Failure to Share Your Campaign Effectively

Getting people to see your campaign is up to you. Make sure you share your campaign on social media in ways that get people excited about it. Just remember that sharing your campaign is just as important as creating it.

Being Unclear About Your Intentions

Unfortunately, a recent news story about misused crowdsourced funds (not for travel) has made some people wary about donating.  If you are asking for funds, be very clear about how you intend to use those donations. It’s okay to ask for help with a dream trip, just don’t portray it as a charity adventure.

If you are asking people for money for a study trip, tell them all about, give as much detail as possible. People like to know how their money will be spent.

Writing a Lackluster Campaign Story

Crowdfunding is competitive. Not everyone will get the money they need. The best way to make sure your campaign is successful is to write a compelling story. Share something special about yourself. Use pictures and videos to make your story interesting. The more creative you are, the better the chance is that you will reach your goal.

Not Thanking Your Donors

If someone cares enough to make a donation, take the time to thank them. This is the most important thing to do in order to have a successful campaign! Create interesting donor rewards for each donation amount. Create an update after each donation thanking the donor, and noting what their money is going towards. People who know their donation is appreciated might donate to your campaign again, or at the very least, share your campaign with their networks.

Carefully read all of these tips and  keep them in mind in order to make the most out of your FundMyTravel campaign.
